At the Yellowknife Airport (YZF), safety is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you’re an employee, contractor, or visitor, reporting potential hazards or incidents is essential to ensuring a safe travel experience for all. 

We’ve made it easy to report concerns such as wildlife activity, airside construction issues, spills, or foreign object debris. Our streamlined process allows us to respond swiftly and effectively.

Report A Hazard 

At YZF, safety is our first priority. 

The reporting of hazards, safety concerns, and aviation accidents and incidents is a key part of the Airport’s Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring safety remains a priority at all 27 airports operated by the Government of the Northwest Territories. 

What Should I Report? 

  • Any hazard to aviation safety 
  • Damage to aircraft 
  • Damage to building 
  • Injury to airside staff 
  • Aircraft incident 
  • Airfield lighting system outage 
  • Airside Vehicle Operators Permit infraction 
  • Airside construction infraction  
  • Bird/wildlife activity 
  • Foreign object debris – article(s) 
  • Foreign object debris – pavement 
  • Fuel spill 
  • Incursion 
  • Near-miss vehicle/aircraft 
  • Airside safety issue – general 

Why Should I Report an Incident at YZF? 

All incidents and hazards should be reported so that they can be tracked and analyzed. Once brought to attention, corrective actions can then be planned. We can't fix what we don't know about. 

How Do I Submit a Report? 

Please follow the instructions that best suit you and the circumstance: 

I am an employee, contractor or tenant at the airport: 

  1. Report to your supervisor/manager for action. 
  2. Fill out the Incident, Hazard, or Suggestion Reporting Form and submit as indicated on the form. These reports do not replace your company's internal safety incident reporting. 

I am a member of the public: 

  1. Fill out the Incident, Hazard, or Suggestion Reporting Form and submit as indicated on the form.  

What Happens After I Submit My Report? 

You will receive a receipt of your report and a follow up to advised you of the final outcome. 

You can also report anonymously, in which case you will be notified of the final outcome through our annual Safety and Management System newsletter. 

Report a Spill 

YZF Duty Manager shall be notified of all fuel and hazardous material spills. 

YZF Duty Manager: 867-445-5518 (24 hours/day) 

  • A fire guard, equipped with an extinguisher, shall be posted by the aircraft operator. 
  • All equipment, in the spill area and within 15 meters of the spill, shall be shut down. 
  • A spill report must be reported to the 24-Hour spill line 867-920-8130. 

The Yellowknife Airport Fire Department maintains a spill kit (trailer). It is stocked with spill containment and collection materials and can be made available for use in the clean up or containment of a spill, on a cost recovery basis.
